Finding Time in the Mountains
This is what Business Coaching in the mountains is all about!
Part of growing older (and maybe wiser 🤔) is knowing from experience that:
➡️ The path does become clearer, but not all at once.
⏱️ It takes time for our mind to catch up with change
🌱 Big shifts do happen, just not as quickly as we'd like.
The key is starting the thinking and having the conversations that get the mind moving, and then giving yourself time to ponder 💭
It's having faith that you're not going to get all the answers right-now-this-very-minute, but you've started the process to get the answers later.
And then giving yourself time and space to work through it.
But we are living lives that are under such pressure to squeeze more and more 'doing stuff' IN, which squeezes all of our 'thinking time' OUT,
More bitesize learning, power-hours, 15-minute calls, hopping from one appointment to the next, back-to-back meetings, pomodoros, 10-minute workouts, quick-cook ready meals, 6-episode TV series you can watch all at once (which I'm sure used to actually be called 'mini-series').
We may think that cramming more and more stuff in helps us to get more done, but it is suffocating our minds, limiting our big, reflective thinking and stifling our creativity.
Our minds need time and space to breathe. To process what's coming in, reflect on what is happening and what thoughts are in our head, to join all of the dispirate dots, and ponder what to do with what we find.
When people ask what they get from a day out in the mountains with me, it's not about a neatly-bound strategy document that's going to sit on your shelf, gathering dust
It's the time and space for you to take a step back, process what is going on, and see the stuff you just can't see when you are wading through the middle of it ⛰️
To be prompted and challenged, to start the mind moving, and then having time to think and reflect as we walk.
And come away with ideas, actions and insights which, in all honesty, will probably be spinning around in your mind long after we've got back.
But something will shift.
Change will start 🌱
